Zoo Attacks = Advertising Opportunity?
In May, a gorilla named Bokito escaped from the Rotterdam Zoo and attacked a female visitor who had repeatedly made eye contact with the primate. When situations like this arise, you and I think tragedy and concerns about zoo safety are raised by all regular zoo-goers.
How does health insurance company, FBTO, respond to situations like this? Concern? Creation of safety plans for zoos? Nope, they advertise!
It is believed that the attack was triggered by the direct eye contact between the woman and the gorilla, an act known to upset gorillas. So, according to Trendhunter, “FBTO capitalized on the publicity of the incident to showcase their simple intuitive solutions by distributing more than 2,000 “BokitoViewers” at the entrance of the Zoo. The viewers allow you to look directly at animals while giving the illusion that you are looking away from them.”
What do you think of this campaign? Impressive? Will the audience remember the “advertising” and who it was from?
